Our Policies



Burlington Antiques offers a 3-month warranty on all items - new and secondhand. 

We stand by our products and offer consumer guarantees in accordance with Victorian statutes. 

The 3-month warranty does not extend to damage caused by excessively rough or inappropriate use/treatment of purchased items. 

The warranty is voided if a jewellery piece is altered by another jeweller as we cannot control, endorse or be responsible for the quality of other tradespeople.

Please note that we sell many antique and vintage pieces, as well as coloured stones and organic gems that are by nature very fragile and may be fit for purpose as dress jewellery only, and not suited for everyday wear. 

If you are uncertain about the suitability of a piece for your intended purposes, please ask our friendly and experienced staff who can discuss your needs and advise if the piece is appropriate for your intended use. 

Returns Policy

Our staff will happily offer an exchange or store credit note on our jewellery items if returned in the same condition they were sold within two weeks of purchase. 

We do not offer refunds if you've simply changed your mind or chosen an unsuitable gift. 

In the unlikely event that any of our items have a major fault or if they don't match up to the description of goods purchased, we will offer a refund or repair or exchange or store credit note. 

Your easiest option is to contact the store you purchased from. However, you can discuss your options with our staff at any of our three store locations. 

Please keep your receipt as proof of purchase.  

Special Orders and Custom Orders

While our antique and vintage jewels are generally not repeatable pieces, some of our range of new jewellery items can be re-ordered or re-made by us if the piece you want is sold. 

Special Orders:

We are more than happy to order any item especially for you, if available.

Before going ahead, we will provide you with a special order price. This is a net price and is not subject to any sale reductions, discounts or special offers.

We require a minimum 50% deposit to place the order.  

Please allow approximately 4-6 weeks for most special orders to come into stock, unless advised otherwise. 

Payments are to be finalised within 2 weeks of goods arriving in store.

In accordance with our returns policy, we do not offer refunds for change of mind on special order items.  

Custom Orders:

In addition to special order pieces, we can also custom make some jewellery items.

We will provide you upfront with a quote to custom make your jewellery pieces (including jeweller's labour costs). Quotes for custom order pieces are net prices and are not subject to any discounts, sale reductions or special offers.

A minimum 50% deposit is required to commence work.

Depending on the complexity of items being custom made, production could take up to 4-6 weeks. If required, please check with staff for an estimated time frame.

Final payment and collection of goods is required within 2 weeks of completion of work.

It is important to note that custom made pieces are created to your specifications and, as such, are not refundable and not exchangeable.


As always, we look forward to sourcing or creating your special jewellery pieces, but remind you to please choose carefully.


Our standard layby terms are 3-months duration with a minimum 20% deposit. This applies to non-sale items. 

We do offer layby on some sale items - this will depend on the extent of our sale reductions. Layby on sale items is only 4 weeks with a minimum 20% deposit.

Extra discounts will not be applied to a layby if a sale occurs after the layby has commenced. 

Layby extensions may be possible in some circumstances if arranged with management, providing flexibility in exchange for regular payments.  We can exchange layby items to equal or greater value.

Exchanging a layby item does not alter the agreed duration of the layby. As per our returns policy, we do not offer refunds for ill chosen items. 

Please note: a layby cancellation fee is 20% of the total layby amount. Please choose carefully. 

Holds and Transfers

If you need a little extra time to think about purchasing a special piece, maybe you want to get a second opinion from a friend, or need to run the finances past a partner, we may hold the item aside for you for an agreed period of time. 

Our hold items are subject to the following conditions:


Please note: in some special instances, certain highly sought after pieces may not be available for hold. Please check with staff.

In order to place an item on hold, you will need to provide your full name and telephone number. In return, we will keep the item aside for the agreed time frame and offer you the sole opportunity to purchase.

Cancelling a hold:

If you are unable to return for your hold item or simply change your mind, we greatly appreciate a quick telephone call to the relevant store to cancel the hold. If we don't hear from you, you agree that we may call you to follow up.

Items not purchased at the end of the arranged hold period will be returned to stock and be available for anyone to purchase.

While our hold service is obligation free, we do request that hold items are limited to genuine interest to purchase. 

Inter-store transfers:

In some compelling circumstances, we may transfer stock from one store to another for your convenience. Transferring stock is subject to the same conditions as our regular hold items, but with extended hold time to allow for stock to reach the designated store.

Once in store, we will provide a courtesy call to advise you that the item you are interested in has arrived. As with a regular hold item, you will have a pre-arranged period of time in which to return for the piece before it is returned to stock.

Stock transfers are an occasional courtesy reserved only for genuine interest to purchase.

Please note: We reserve the right to deny holds or inter-store transfers on any jewellery pieces. 

Gift Certificates and Credit Notes

A convenient gift solution, Burlington Antiques' gift certificates can be redeemed at any of our three store locations.

Starting at a minimum $20, our gift certificates can be tailored to the value amount of your choosing. The maximum gift certificate value is unlimited.

All Burlington Antiques' gift certificates and credit notes are valid for 12 months from date of purchase or issue. Our gift certificates have the expiry date clearly displayed. 

Our gift certificates or credit notes do not need to be used in one transaction. (As our vouchers are not electronic, we may provide a separate credit note for the remaining amount.) Any unspent balance remains valid until the original gift certificate or credit note's expiry date.

Burlington's gift certificates cannot be reloaded (that is, the value cannot be increased or added to). You can always purchase additional vouchers, if needed. 

Gift certificates and credit notes cannot be redeemed for cash unless there is a remaining amount that, in the reasonable opinion of the business, cannot be conveniently used.

Please check with staff before making your purchase if you have any questions about redeeming a gift certificate or credit note.
